Fifth, "Pearl Harbor" takes its place in the list of top 10 movies. This movie is set in the backdrop of the second world war and the notorious destruction caused by the Japanese on the Pearl Harbor. Kate Bekinsale and Ben Afflek looked like a twosome in this film. It is a real love story in the time of distress. The cinematography was excellent as were the songs, which were sung by Faith Hill.

Sixth comes "Titanic", an all time favorite of everyone. The famous song sung by Celine Dion has made a permanent place in the hearts of millions.

Seventh comes "When Harry met Sally", a fun movie to watch. Meg Ryan is marvelous in this movie. A romantic comedy in genre, this film is a delight to watch.

Eighth, it is "Pretty Woman" a heart-warming movie with all the commercial ingredients. The star cast is the main attraction of this movie.

Old Classic movies never lose their charm. They are evergreen and never go out of style. The magic of old Classic movies remain in the hearts of million of fans forever. The songs are legendary and the actors, Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer and those seven little children of Captain VonTrapp were awesome.

Another vintage has got be "Gone With The Wind". It is a classic tale of romance, starring Clarke Gable and vivacious Vivian Leigh. The immortal character of Reth Butler played By Clarke Gable makes the film everlasting. Vivian Leigh never looked so beautiful. The film was shot brilliantly in a far west location.

Old Classics include all the works of the great master Charlie Chaplin. The wackiest of comedies created with great mastery in the silent era will always be like the monuments, which stand still even in the most adversities. "Lime Light" and "Great Dictator" happen to be my personal favorite. The great master created some brilliant magic on the screen in adverse conditions and when there were practically very little gears, which are needed to make a film. Even without sound the master created something that makes the viewers speechless.

Another old classic movie is "Cleopatra". The title character was played by Elizabeth Taylor. Her husband Richard Burton also played an important role in this film. A nicely shot film in the backdrop of Roman Empire, the film is one of a kind. Ravishing Elizabeth created a history with her attire and look as Cleopatra. She looked stunning in the film and acted radiantly. The film was a huge success in the Box Office.

Lastly, a film, which needs to be mentioned while talking about old classics is "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers" It is a very nice film to watch with lots of humorous scenes and nicely portrayed characters. It is a feel good movie with all the ingredients to make all the viewers happy and content at the end.

Editing a movie can be referred to as tailoring a movie. Just as people don't want to wear ill-fitting clothes, similarly no viewer is ready to see an unedited movie. But both have a valuable message, and what is it? Stay in school. Finish your education. Make a difference by becoming an asset to your community.

The Great Debaters
This movie should win some great awards. It deals with the Jim Crowe conditions that blacks faced during the depression, and the difficulty of living at that time. It shows that many worked toward a future that would end those problems for future generations.

By following the debate team from Wiley College, you see the hope of strong willed people willing to work for a better future. You find a dedicated professor, Melvin Tolson, played by Denzel Washington, teaching a new debate team how to prepare, address a crowd, persuade, write, and even promote their winning team. Also, you see young college students become adults, ready to help their community and improve their country.

Based on a true story, the debate team wins repeatedly, escapes a lynch mob, and overcomes personal demons to succeed. Professor Tolson works to improve his students, but also his community. One of the finest moments in this film occurs after he has been arrested for attempting to form a union.

Tolson's friend and an administrator at Wiley College, James Farmer Sr., persuades the local sheriff (played by John Heard) to let Tolson go home, and avoid a riot. Dr. Farmer's son, Junior, watches this exchange. He realizes that he has witnessed a great debate, a real one. Not like the staged debates he has been party to on the team, this one can end in peace for their town or real bloodshed. It is a stirring moment.

At the end of the movie, this same young man shows he has come of age as he argues a point in a debate. He shows he has mastered his education, but even more, that he has grasped that it is real, not just learning from a book.

This movie teaches that with a good education, you can become an asset to your community. You can change the world. The money for college that you need does not amount to much, and you can find a way to finish and make a difference.

How She Move
Why would How She Move have anything in common with The Great Debaters? Both of them illustrate that an education can make a huge difference in our society, and in your future contribution. You can overcome even great odds to go to college and earn a degree.

Finding the money to go to college is a short term problem. Earning a degree offers a long term distinction that will serve you your whole life. In How She Move, the main character, played by Tre Armstrong, needs to earn money to go to college.

And if you've seen the trailer, you may think that she uses her wiles to do it. Not the case. How She Move has a few dance scenes, but nowhere near as many as Take the Lead, Dirty Dancing, or other similar movies. The film limits itself to step dancing, which usually happens as a team of men or women with choreographed moves.

In the end, she still needs to earn money for college. To make ends meet, she joins the underdog step team in her neighborhood and tries to shake up their plans. When the team hits a set back (another team cracks their steps, in other words copies them) she can finally help them excel. And she does it without drugs, too.

In a sense, both of these movies show that you can come from anywhere and make a difference. You can start with nothing and become a force for good or at least rise above the problems around you. Granted, one does it with flair and drama. The Great Debaters is a must see, but you can still learn something from the other as well.

Perhaps one of the most influential and exciting exhibitions I aspire to visit every year is the Berlin Film Festival. With the different varieties and styles of live theaters in Austin, a night at the theater could be wild and rambunctious, or a beautiful and classy affair. On the east side of town, one can find small, arty theaters such as the Salvage Vanguard, while downtown patrons can take in the ballet, or a family-friendly show at the Zach Scott.

In 1932, the Zach Scott Theatre got its start as the Austin Civic Theatre, and is central Texas's oldest resident theater. Zachary Thompson Scott Jr. was born in 1914, son of Zachary Thompson Scott, one of Austin's premiere surgeons. Zach Scott was raised in Sweetbrush, the family estate off Windsor Road. Scott Jr. dashed his father's hopes of following in his footsteps when he graduated UT as an actor, moved to Hollywood, and enjoyed a successful film career. In 1972, an 8,000-square-foot theater facility with a 200-seat thrust stage was built, and the Austin Civic Theatre officially changed its name to Zachary Scott Theatre, after the Scott family provided the final funding for the facility.

Today Zach Scott Theatre has roughly 10 productions every season, with shows such as Shear Madness, and David Sedaris' Santaland Diaries, coming back season after season due to their high popularity. Currently the theatre is running Speeding Motorcycle inspired by legendary off-the-wall Austin musician and artist, Daniel Johnston.

Zach Scott also appeals to Austin's young crowd by offering the Project Discovery program which offers ticket prices under 5 dollars to school-aged children. Project Interact, Zach's professional youth company, has run for over 2 decades performing original shows for central Texas schools.

For those looking for some edgier theater, Salvage Vanguard Theater has been providing new original material since 1994. The theater's founder, Jason Neulander, has been very involved in the local theater scene, and began the "Independent Theatre Conspiracy" which brought together 8 small local theaters in hopes of cross promotion. Neulander is also a founding member of Austin's Performing Arts Research Coalition group, which is part of a national initiative to study the performing arts' impact on communities.

Several local writers came together to produce Salvage Vanguard's runaway hit "Intergalactic Nemesis", read in the style of an old radio play, including live sound effects. The buzz grew, and now the show tours nationally. When the theater isn't putting on a local production, they are hosting music or film nights, and providing space as an art gallery during business hours.

Founded in 1956 as the Austin Ballet Society, Ballet Austin has since grown into a professional company and puts on 5 different productions every season. Stephen Mills has been with Ballet Austin for over 20 years, and is the company's current artistic director. Mills draws inspiration from many contemporary music composers, and has even choreographed ballets to pieces created by local musicians, such as local pianist Glover Gill.

Recently, Ballet Austin relocated to the Butler Dance Education Center and Community School in downtown Austin. Ballet Austin Academy is the official ballet school of Ballet Austin, which steers its students into professional careers in dance. Also, the Butler Community School is open to the public offering a wide variety of classes from yoga and pilates to hula and (obviously) ballet.

Though Ballet Austin has put on their productions at UT's Bass Hall for the past 20 years, all future productions will be performed at the newly finished Long Center for the Performing Arts, which will dazzle crowds with not only the fine production value of the performance, but also the beautiful new architectural surroundings.

Lollapalooza gets set to raise the temperature this summer

The idea for Lollapalooza was conceived in 1990 by Perry Farrell - then front man for alternative rock icons 'Jane's Addiction' - who wished to stage a festival, as a farewell for the band, who had decided to split up. The inaugural event saw acts as diverse as Public Enemy and Lenny Kravitz perform on the same bill and Farrell quickly realised that with alternative rock and, more specifically, grunge set to explode into mainstream consciousness, the timing was perfect to take Lollapalooza on the road.

The first tour of its kind, Lollapalooza quickly became successful, mostly due to the fact that while most festivals attempted to draw crowds from all over the U.S to one place, Lollapalooza took East and West coast culture to the heart of America, thus more people witnessed the event than any other "standard" festival. Perry Farrell also made several conceptual decisions regarding the event to differentiate it from the other American festivals at the time, most of which relied on corporate sponsorship while his didn't. Non-musical performances also quickly became a key concept in the promotion of the event as a cultural festival, rather just another rock show.

After the success of Lollapalooza in 1991, a second stage was added to the festival in '92, specifically for new bands to have a chance to shine in front of much larger crowds than they were used to. Many of these acts (including 'Rage Against The Machine' and 'Cypress Hill') went on to have great commercial success, a feat that would have been almost impossible without the platform of Lollapalooza to elevate them. Around this time, alternative rock grew rapidly in popularity throughout the United States. Fans camped outside Ticketmaster outlets for hours, sometimes even days, in the hope of getting to go to Lollapalooza, now officially the hottest ticket of the summer.

However, many attendees of 1992's Lollapalooza complained about not only the high ticket price, but also what they saw as extortionate prices for food and water. Frustrated fans caused thousands of dollars worth of damage at one of the dates near Detroit, ripping up chunks of sod and grass to throw at each other and the bands onstage. After the sun went down the chaos continued, with many impromptu bonfires being lit all over the lawn and concert-goers climbing up the lighting rig. These events were a disturbing precursor to the violence that marred the revived Woodstock festival a few years later.

As the years went on, the popularity of Lollapalooza waned, with many fans complaining that the newly-inked deals with corporate sponsors - including car finance companies and commercial radio stations - went against everything the festival set out to achieve. The booking of acts that were considered "too mainstream" was also a controversial move with most festival attendees balking at the idea of the 'Prodigy' and 'Metallica' playing the festival. By 1998 a headliner for the tour couldn't be found and, for the first time since its inception, the tour was cancelled.

The Lollapalooza festival was resurrected in 2003, with a $5 million deal being struck in 2005 to have the two day festival held at Grant Park in Chicago every year until 2011. The 2008 event, which takes place in August looks set to be another great year of music and attractions, with 'Pearl Jam', 'Muse', 'Iggy and the Stooges' and 'Snow Patrol' already confirmed to perform as well as the usual array of bizarre sideshow attractions and stalls, sure to appease even the most ardent of alternative rock fans.

Later, Scottie meets Judy also played by Kim Novak, who reminds him of Madeleine.

The third Hitchcock movie is North By Northwest made in the year 1959. The film is about a middle-aged Madison Avenue advertising executive Roger O. Thornhill played by Cary Grant who is mistaken for a government agent by a gang of spies. He gets involved in a series of adventures and is pursued across the States by both spies and the government. He is wrongly accused of murder and becomes an innocent man on the run, along the way falling for an icy blonde played by Eva Marie Saint. They attempt to stop the diabolical Philip Vandamm played by James Mason from getting government secrets out of the country.

The fourth movie is Psycho made in the year 1960. Psycho is a masterpiece of suspense and horror. Marion Crane is a Phoenix, Arizona working girl who runs away with $40,000 and her lover to start a new life. While fleeing, they stops at a motel where they meet Norman Bates, a peculiar man dominated by his invalid mother. Murderous psychos have never got any scarier than Norman Bates, and the shower scene is the most terrifying ever done on film!

If you are one of those people who went to film school and still cannot understand why they did not teach you how to get a job in the film industry, then I suggest that you stop complaining, gather up all the creative, hard working film production people you know, make yourself an independent film and enter it in some film festivals. If you win an award at a prominent film festival your life may change very dramatically for the better. Even a small award at a small film festival will more than likely set you on the path to having a career in the film industry.

Most people attend film schools with big dreams of working in the Hollywood film industry and possibly even making a name for themselves. They have visions of red carpet interviews, Academy Awards acceptance speeches and stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. However, most of them will never see those dreams come to fruition and they will face endless frustration and disappointment instead.

After graduating from film school most people are expected to break into a business that is considered to be one of the most difficult in the world to find employment, unless you have connections, of course. For the ones without connections, it can be very frustrating. Unfortunately for them, the Hollywood film industry is run by a tight knit community that practices nepotism and rarely opens the door to newcomers.

Most of the films that win awards and get screened at the Big Three film festivals are made by independent film production divisions of the Big Six film studios like Warner Bros and Disney. By definition they are still considered to be independent films if no more than 50 percent of the funding comes from a major studio. But that fifty percent is usually millions of dollars, and this puts the production value in a whole different league than the movies that are made by small time independent filmmakers with miniscule budgets. Also, most of these big budget festival films have big Hollywood stars attached to them which makes them irresistible to the contest judges and management.

The Big Three film festivals have been invaded by the Big Six film production studios with big budget movies masquerading as independent films. This makes it very hard for a film that was shot with a digital camera on a shoestring budget to compete at Cannes, Toronto and Sundance. These kinds of films have a much better chance of winning an award at a film festival like Worldfest Houston or the Austin Film Festival because they are more interested in showcasing film talent than they are catering to the Hollywood film industry. Filming Of The Tintin Movie Has Begun

It has finally begun the eagerly anticipated Tintin movies which are the collaboration of two giants of Hollywood direction Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg has commenced filming. The first Tintin movie is being directed by action director extraordinaire James Cameron who is known for films such as Speed and is apparently at the avatar stage. James Cameron is believed to be filming the first Tintin movie while Jackson and Spielberg are now known to be directing one Tintin movie each to complete a trilogy of Tintin films. The Tintin movies are being filmed back to back for expediency and financial costing.
Andy Serkis of who has worked with Jackson before when he starred as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings films has been picked to play one of the main roles in the Tintin movie as the lovable Captain Haddock. Andy Serkis who was recently on the new set said of the experience. "We had an incredible week. Cameron was there, Peter Jackson was there and Steven Spielberg was there. All in the same room"

When Andy Serkis was asked what the process was like he answered "You're on a bare empty stage with actors standing around in blue lycra with dots on, but (on another monitor) the director is looking into a fully rendered, three dimensional virtual set, with actors as their children" Serkis revealed, discussing the ground breaking technology Cameron has employed on this film.

The technology used is stop gap animation techniques that were first used on the Lord of the Rings movies but have now been developed even further in New Zealand where Peter Jackson has his Weta Workshop. It was whispered that Jackson spent a whole year developing a twenty minute demo of the look of the new Tintin movies that were said to of wowed the backers.

The movies are going to have a large budget that is reported be over one hundred million pounds for the three Tintin movies. Whether you are a film aficionado or a filmmaker with a film entered, a film festival is an exciting experience and one you will want to repeat as often as possible." These words are the experience of Chris Gore that he writes in the first 10 pages of his book "The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide". In this book he talks about going to Film Festivals all over the world and enjoying each and every one of them.

There was a time when there were only few film festivals and people were not enthusiasts enough as the studios controlled every aspect of film making. However, with the rise of Indie films every state in the country had its own film festival. In California alone there is around twenty or more film festivals.

There was a time when films did not happen at all unless they were under the sponsorship of the some studios. There was no chance at all for a little guy getting his or her film out there. But now the whole thing has been changed. The little guy can show his films anywhere he want, this gave a call to the rise of independent film festivals all over the world.

The first few film festivals where people submitted their films were the Sundance, The Tribeca, and The Toronto Film Festivals. Later however there came lots of other film festivals where people could submit their films and show their talent. This is rather like a lottery; if you don't play you can't win. If you don't enter your film you can't get it shown. You must continue to present your motion picture as many times as you can until you finally get approval into a festival.

Always remember that film festival board may have 800 submissions and only 40 spots for a film to be shown. So in the beginning you might get few rejection letters until you get your first acceptance letters. Many a refusal letter has given the reason that they had far too many submissions to even view them all. My advice to you is that once you have your film done and you have the very first date they are opening for submissions then put forward your film. Don't wait until the last minute.

Make sure that your film has entered the right festival. I am not sure about the category, but you can get your film into the general drift. Also do not forget to read your application cautiously. It may require your entry to be mailed, done online, or even in person.

While presenting an independent motion picture, be very careful about the timings. If it is too long then do some trimming work. Just to be on the safer side if the film is say about 10 minutes long, make it 9 minutes. Do not let them a chance to give you a rejection letter for any cause.

Rejections can be a bit funny at the same time tricky. The "Slamdance" film festival came about as an answer to the rejections from "Sundance". The Sundance Festival shows its plays in Park City, Utah at the same time in Park City, Utah Slamdance also shows it plays. This is a purposeful attempt to show the films that have been over looked or rejected by Sundance.

When Nazi scientists discover his miraculous rejuvenation, they take a high interest in determining how this happened and place Dominic Matei (played by Tim Roth) into exile. While he is running to escape, Dominic reunites with his long-lost love and soon finds himself having to choose between the love of his life and his life's work researching the origin of language. Which will he choose?

The film is based on a novel by Mircea Eliade. Dominic begins his journey in his hometown of Piatra-Neamt, but finds that he cannot stay here. He travels to Romania with plans to kill himself with high doses of strychnine. When a lightning strike derails his plans and burns him horribly, Dominic is taken to a local hospital. There he starts his change from an old man to a youthful man, which the treating physician, Professor Stanciulescu, contributes to the jolt of lightning that he experienced. It is there that Dominic is presented with his "double," a much younger rendition of himself. Soon, though, he must leave the hospital with a false identity because of the untoward publicity that he and his "double" have received.

Dominic winds up in a clinic where Professor Stanciulescu takes notes about his life experiences to try and make sense of what has happened to him.

During their interview, the "double" reappears unexpectedly. To this point, Dominic thought that the "double" must have been a figment of his imagination. To prove that he is real, the "double" demonstrates a miracle with roses. Unknown to Dominic, a mysterious woman in room six of the clinic gives the Gestapo recordings of nightly conversations with Dominic and then disappears. For fear of being kidnapped, Dominic flees to Switzerland with false papers provided by the Professor.

In Switzerland Dominic meets up with his beloved Veronica, a woman with whom he spends much of the rest of his journey. They travel to India to complete some research and then to Malta. In Malta, Dominic discovers Veronica beginning to speak in different languages, but at first Veronica is not aware that she is doing this. Each time Veronica goes into these episodes, she becomes weaker, ages more, and her language becomes more ancient.

Dominic's "double" urges him to let her continue having these episodes, despite her suffering, so that the origin of language can be finally discovered. Because of his undying love for Veronica, Dominic cannot find it in his heart to do this. He believes that if he leaves the scene Veronica may regain her strength and youthfulness, so Dominic departs and returns back home to Piatra-Neamt.

While in his room resting, Dominic pulls out a picture of Veronica. She is youthful again and has two children. Now he knows that leaving her was the right thing to do. Dominic confronts his "double," trying to explain the difference between good and evil. The "double" insists that Dominic should have let Veronica go on to the origin of language, and that all of his research is wasted because he left her side.

Dominic ultimately shatters the mirror that brings forth his "double" to be rid of him completely. Within a short period of time, Dominic abruptly ages and dies. A rose, given by his love, appears in his outstretched hand.

First, Rocky came back from the dead, from poverty, from old age to remind us of what really matters in life. We didn't bother engaging each other about the implausibility of a fifty year old getting in the ring with a twenty something. We didn't want to. We wanted to believe in Rocky because he (even though is just a fictional character) represents more to us. He is inspiration; he is our comeback kid. He is hard work, determination and most of all humility. When we go to see him in the movie, we are not interested in reality; and I dare say we are not all that interested in being entertained. Additionally, it is probably true that we are not all that interested in feeling good. We want to be inspired. We need to be inspired.

It stands to reason that not too long after that Rambo came back to let us know that the world belongs to the American with the tough exterior but heart of gold: velvet and steel. We dismiss the rampant violence in the movie; because again, we want inspiration. We are able to leave the news about mortgage crises, jobs going overseas and rising racial tension. We are able to see a good guy win. Even if he is misunderstood, as all of us think we are at some level. Rambo is everyman. He is, unlike us at many points, clear on his mission. The film is about in stellar mining vehicle Nostromo, heading back to Earth, intercepts a signal from a nearby planet, the crew are under obligation to investigate. The most important scene from this film almost became iconic with an infant creature bursting bloodily through John Hurt's chest. The interstellar mining vessel takes onboard a life form with concentrated acid for blood and two sets of jaws, which then messily dispatches the crew. The film was praised for the gothic set design and Sigourney Weaver's portrayal of reluctant hero Ellen Ripley.

The fourth film is called 2001 A Space Oddesy directed by Stanely Kubrick. This film was being made in the year 1968. The film is one of the finest works of director Staley Kubrick. This film achieved enormous fame for its then revolutionary special effects. Even before the invention of super computers and stunning special effects, this film has brilliance of the simulations, which would never be done better despite all the modern computer graphics.

The fifth film is called Solaris, which is directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. This film is being made in the year 1972. The Tintin movie is slowly building momentum and Spielberg and Jackson are quite deliberately putting in place the pieces needed to produce what most Tintin fans hope to be a wonderful recreation of their beloved Belgium boy detective.

Nick Rodwell is the husband of Herge's widow Fanny, the holder of the universal rights for the Tintin estate and was quoted as saying "There will be a worldwide promotion, and we will emerge from the Belgian, French and Swiss ghetto to reach for China and the U.S.," he said. "It will be a big Hollywood production, nearer the $100 million mark than the $20 million, but that's not my business."

The person linked to the writing of this large Hollywood production is one Steven Moffat who is most famous for writing the better episodes of the new Doctor Who series.

Steven Moffat was first seen as a writer on television for a programme could "Stay Lucky" where he was credited on an episode called "The Devil Wept In Leeds". Steven Moffat has become a well known writer of TV in Britain and has many credits including "Coupling" seen as Britain's answer to friends that proved very popular amongst the 24-35 age bracket.

They plan to film three Tintin Movies back to back for expediency and financial benefit. The rumours claim that the first Tintin movie should be in post production by early 2009 with the film coming out later in that year.

Kathleen Kennedy is serving as producer on the three Tintin trilogy, which will be made using performance-capture technology and produced in digital 3-D. Jackson and Spielberg are each directing an instalment, with the director of the third movie to be determined at a later date.

She dug and found 3 crosses; one of them was the True Cross used to crucify Jesus. Empress Helena then gave a portion of the True Cross to all churches, including the Ethiopian Church. This piece of the True Cross was then brought to Ethiopia. According to the Ethiopian legend, when people get close to the piece Cross it made them unclothed by its powerful light. Due to this, a decision was made toput it in the ground at the mountain of Gishen Mariam monastery in Wollo region. It is evident that the monastery of Gishen Mariam possesses a volume of a book which records the story of the True Cross of Jesus and how it was came into the possession.

Bianca Castafiore first appears in the King Ottokar's Sceptre and was to make an appearance in several of the Adventures of Tintin albums written and illustrated by Herge. Bianca Castafiore character is a Milanese opera singer and her disposition is definitely one of an opera diva.

Herge the creator of Tintin was not a big fan of opera and the creation of Bianca Castafiore was considered by many to be an acknowledgment of that fact.

Castafiore is presented as being one of the leading lights in of opera of her generation but in all her appearances in the albums is only heard to sing a couple of lines form The Jewel Song (l' air des bijoux) from Faust and then only at deafening volumes "Ah my beauty past compare, these jewels bright I wear!...Was I ever Margarita? Is it I? Come reply...Mirror mirror tell me truly!" It was fair to say that Castafiore was not universally liked by all of the Tintin gang.

Captain Haddock in particular isn't a big Castafiore fan and at one point she even calls him a "scruffy little school boy". She shows a maternal instinct for Haddock which he truly hates and when he is later linked romantically to Bianca Castafiore by a newspaper reporter he is revealed by Herge as a very unhappy character indeed.

Captain Haddock's is further annoyed by the fact that the signora can never get his name right (see the end of the post for details) and when she ever shows signs of affection for Captain through gifts the results are always calamitous.

Bianca Castafiore (her name means "chaste flower") ends up captured along with her entourage (her maid Irma, her musician Igor Wagner and the detectives Thompson and Thompson) in the album Tintin and the Picaros by General Tapioca on the advice of Colonel Sponsz. The general and colonel's aim being to lure Captain Haddock, Tintin and Professor Calculus to San Theodoros where they are then accused of conspiring with Castafiore to assassinate and overthrow General Tapioca. Then however through an unseen chain of events General Tapioca is overthrown with the help of the accused.

This doesn't help Castafiore as she is unfortunately still imprisoned and is seen to complain of over cooked pasta. Bianca Castafiore is one of the best loved characters in the Tintin adventure comics and it will be very interesting to see which lucky actress will get to play her in the upcoming Tintin movie to be directed by Spielberg and Jackson.

Spielberg And Jackson Find Their Captain Haddock For Tintin Movie

Peter Jackson who is to direct one of the Tintin movies (three movies r planned) has found his Captain Haddock or so the Hollywood rumour mill suggests. Anyone who s familiar with Peter Jackson's work will be familiar with the name Andy Serkis as they worked together during the Lord Of The Rings trilogy.

The Tintin movie is going to have a similar look to the character Gollum from Lord of the Rings with Peter Jackson using his valuable technological expertise. Jackson along with his partners as the Weta Workshop will use technology developed for Lord of the Rings. The character Gollum was created by Weta using motion capture techniques on actor Andy Serkis then using key frame animation and subsurface scattering rendering techniques enabled the first completely convincing portrayal of an animated humanoid in a feature film. This technology will bring a realistic portrayal of Tintin to the big screen.

Jackson said "We are making the character look photorealistic,the fibres of their clothing, the pores of their skin and each individual hair. It is possible that the work, certainly the first one will start next year".

Andy Serkis was first seen in a little known TV serial Streetwise in 1989 going on to work in more British TV appearing in small parts in such well known TV series such as The Bill and Darling Buds of May (Which introduced Catherine Zeta Jones to the world). His first film appearance came in a forgotten but worthwhile retelling of Hamlet called The Prince of Jutland.

Andy Serkis has gone on to appear in over 50 production on both TV and in film having just finished his last movie which he himself directed called Freezing Time which is in post production and is an account of Eadweard Muybridge (1830-1904), pioneering photographer, technologist, self-confessed murderer and founding "Godfather" of cinema and is scheduled for release in 2009.

Comedy films began to appear more during the era of silent films, prior to the 1930s. These comedy movies were originally based on visual humor. The prominent figure that we all know as Charlie Chaplin was one of the famous clown-style actors of the silent era. It was through Charlie Chaplin that the Hollywood comedy movies became famous and soon came the Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd.

Then in the 1920s came another trend of animated cartoons. They were the most popular Hollywood comedy movies of the time. The several popular characters of that era were Felix the cat, Krazy Kat and Betty Boop. However, the popularity of these movies was hindered due to lack of sound and color.

The end of 1920s, the Hollywood comedy industry marked a change brought about by the introduction of sound into the movies. This has allowed the industry to create dramatic new film styles and use verbal humor. These films were soon replacing silent movies. These films used dialogue of comedians such as the W.C Fields and the Marx Brothers. Charlie Chaplin was the last comedian to have acted in the silent films, and his films during 1930s were devoid of dialogue, although they did employ sound effects.

When the United States entered into World War II, Hollywood movies changed its course to themes related to the conflicts and Hollywood comedy movies portrayed more on military themes. The war era experienced a boom, where restrictions on the traveling made nearly a quarter of the money spent was on attending movies.

In the 1950s, the interest shifted where the TV became the focus of adult social situations on family oriented comedies. During this time the release of Hollywood comedy films declined. The 1960s saw an increasing number of broad, star-packed comedies. In 1970 Hollywood comedy movies reflected the anti-war sentiment, which was prevailing then. Amongst the leading figure of this time were Woody Allen and Mel Brooks. They wrote, directed and appeared in their hilariously funny and witty movies.

In the 1980s the gag based comedy Airplane, a spoof of the previous decade disaster film series was released and Hollywood comedy movies paved its way for more of the same including Top Secret and the Naked Gun film. The popular comedian of this time included Dudley Moore, Tom Hanks, Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. Jim Carrey, the Canadian actor and a comedian came into Hollywood comedy movies in the late 1980s where he won the role in Damian Lee Canadian skiing comedy, Copper Mountain.

The most popular Hollywood comedy movies were of John Hughes, which includes Ferris Buellers Day Off and Home Alone series of 1990s. The later films focused more to family audience, this was a revival in comedy movies. The spoof comedy movies remain popular till date.

Another development in the Hollywood comedy movies was the use of gross-out humor, which is usually, aimed at younger audience in films like, There is Something about Mary, American Pie and many more. This trend of gross-out movies continued with adult oriented comedies picking up the box office till date.

Instead of merely attempting to make the viewers complicit in the enjoyment of watching the wronged protagonists stepping outside the legal system and taking matters into their own hands, it uses a great actress like Jodie Foster to see the conflicted emotions such actions can yield. Ultimately, however, even this story loses its worth as it cowers from examining the real social consequences involved.

New Romance Shot In Tenerife

Having a film use your island as a backdrop can be great for tourism - just ask Kefalonia about Captain Morelli's Mandolin - or Malta with Troy, Gladiator and other films.

Now it could be Tenerife's turn to receive a boost in tourism business with a film currently being shot off the island's coastline.

The film, provisionally called The Passenger, is about a young Russian widow returning home to Russia from the US, and is a romance.

Although it has been some time since a film was shot in Tenerife, the island is no stranger in the past for playing host to blockbuster movies - including both Star Wars and Planet of the Apes.

Tenerife will be hoping to follow another holiday island's lead - Malta - in attracting more film making as it does help to promote tourism.

Malta is a beautiful island that is known to attract big budget film makers. Over 50 filmmakers have used Malta as a backdrop for their movies. Malta became a film-makers dream in 1964 when the Mediterranean Film Studios opened and its water tanks became commercial property. The water tanks had previously been owned by the government and were restricted. The shallow and deep water tanks available in Malta provide a unique situation for filmmakers to use in their movies.

A new multi-million budget film is being made in Malta. The new film will be based on ancient Egypt and is expected to draw a lot of attention. It comes as no surprise that the director has chosen Malta as the backdrop for this movie. It is not the first big budget film made in the Mediterranean and likely won't be the last. Production of the new movie is expected to begin in early 2008, and Tenerife hopes it can follow the island of Malta's lead in attracting film makers.

At the moment Tenerife is known for its beautiful climate, which attracts nearly three and a half millions tourists a year to its scenic 2,034 square kilometers. Most of Tenerife's tourism comes from the United Kingdom, followed by Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Italy and France, but films shot on the island would draw tourists from all corners of the globe.

The use of pictorial continuity, the proper development and connection of motion-picture sequences to create a smoothly joined, coherent motion-picture story, is the secret of good moviemaking. It is the easiest, simplest way, because it is the correct way. But - and this is a thankful thing - even the most expensive, gadget-studded movie camera hasn't got pictorial continuity built into it, to function automatically for the cameraman whenever he shoots a story.

Continuity is what transforms a strip of exposed film into a motion-picture: NO gadget can do that. It calls for a little thought in advance, for a good deal of movement to and fro for different angles and shots, for care - deliberation-planning.

The question therefore arises, especially for the non-professional who does his shooting during a few precious hours of leisure: Is it worth it?

Wouldn't it be easier just to load one's camera, check focus and exposure, make sure composition and the expression of the subject are good - and just shoot? Just as one does with still pictures?

Just like still pictures! The ghost of still-picture psychology hovers around many beginning motion-picture cameramen - and logically, for most of us shot stills years before we took up the movie camera. So let's get the straight facts of the matter.

Operating a motion-picture camera with still-camera technique will get you pictures all right; if you are a competent still cameraman those pictures no doubt will be "good" in the sense of being well exposed, nice and sharp, probably well composed, even lively.

But without pictorial continuity, they will not be motion pictures. They will be animated still pictures. Perhaps you will be content to have them so. But we think it an awful shame if you ask of your motion-picture camera only what any decent still camera will give you - a good, sharp, pleasing likeness.

You will also be unfair to the ability of the motion-picture camera to do more than just render a likeness; you will be ignoring its power to tell a living story.

You will also he unfair to yourself, because the apparent trouble of breaking down action into sequences, and sequences into separate shots, the "bother" of observing pictorial continuity, are really no problems at all, but add immeasurably to the sheer fun of movie-making. Once you try it, the bother of getting buildup shots, of establishing tempo, and so on, will warm you up, exhilarate you with an appeal to your imagination and your creative instinct - an instinct that is latent in every camera zealot.

Look at the question from the viewpoint of your prospective audience. Every moviegoer who has seen good and bad movies is sensitive to continuity. He may not be consciously aware of it - he may never even have heard of the term - but it has had its influence on him just the same.
He takes it for granted when he sees a good motion picture: he knows the picture is moving smoothly from scene to scene, sequence to sequence, climax to climax.

If the picture-, however, moves jerkily, without coherence or flow - if continuity is lacking - the moviegoer feels its absence even though he cannot say in so many words what is lacking.

Your audience, your friends, and you will miss it as much whether your picture is for public showing or for persona' pleasure.

The fault is the same - and the remedy is the same. You do not use watercolor technique when painting a canvas in oils: it is as illogical to handle a motion- picture camera as though it were a still camera. You cannot have a true motion picture, a good motion picture, without pictorial continuity. That is the answer to the question. It is worth it!

If you think of all the Spiderman Villians, you have to know of Carnage, as he is surely, one of the most horrific and terrifying villains Spiderman has needed to face. He was created when a predator alien bonded with a serial killer named Cletus Kasady.

This bonding created one of the most vile and evil creatures that Spiderman has ever encountered. Rather than hoping for fame or fortune, Carnage wishes for a society where every being is allowed to do exactly as they please; no law, no rules and no consequences.

Because Carnage is half alien, or symbiote, he has some pretty special abilities including superhuman speed and strength, out of this world stamina and agility, and lighting fast reflexes. He makes all the other Spiderman villians look like flies on the wall waiting as prey.

One of the things that makes this guy even more terrible is that he has an immunity to Spiderman's spider sense. Carnage is the only one of the Spiderman Villains that can catch Spiderman off guard.

Kasady comes from a violent background, probably more violent than all of the Spiderman villains, as Kasady claims his father brutally murdered his mother.

Kasidy continued to share his violent nature by letting his doctors know the had killed his own grandmother, then tortured his mother's dog, which in turn caused his mother to want to kill Kasidy, her own son. It's no wonder this character is wildly insane. By his early twenties, Kasady was convicted of more than 11 murders, but had killed even more than that.

This character is a blend of insanity, evil, and pure and deadly abilities. The combination of these things is what makes Carnage a character that Spiderman fans want to keep an eye on.

The music from the popular radio artist of the time known as Ramsey Lewis wrote "The In Crowd" a hit in 1965. Souls Jazz music signature was powerful bass lines and changing tempo of the song.

The array of Jazz music is present in the Jazz fests who played music with African elements that did not sound like Jazz music. Captain Haddock - The Rougue Sea Captain Created By Georges Herge

Captain Haddock is one of the characters created by Herge the man behind Tintin. The Adventures of Tintin are now some of the well known comic albums in history. Tintin has been able to shift over 200 millions books over his life time. Captain Haddock was introduced to the world in The Crab with the Golden Claws and was depicted as a feeble character who indulged too much in the drink. Captain Haddock's drink of choice was Loch Lomond brand whisky which he drank in copious amounts.

In the Crab with the Golden Claws; Captain Haddock is Commander of the Karaboudjan where he seems almost as dangerous to Tintin as the enemies the Walloon reporter is chasing. There is one sequence in which believing Tintin to be a bottle of champagne he tries to rip the poor boys head off. In this same album Captain Haddock proves to be a short-tempered and wildly erratic and often prone to expletive outbursts.

Herge though then slowly develops the character through out the album. He is shown to be deep down an honest and decent man and with the aid of Tintin finally becomes a sober chap. The Captain and Tintin are seen to be firm friends by the end of The Crab with the Golden Claw.

The introduction of Captain Haddock was to bring about a change in the way Herge worked. He now allowed Captain Haddock to become a balance for Tintin in later albums. Previously Herge supporting characters would not appear regularly but were used for back story an only with in one album. Captain Haddock though was a perfect foil for Tintin with his gruff manor and sarcastic view of life proving a great balance to the naive heroism of Tintin.

Snowy; Tintin's dog had previously been Tintin's main counterpoint but now his trusted wire fox terrier took on a lighter more humorous role and in some albums can even be seen to be drunk. Captain Haddock soon became a firm Tintin fan favourite.

Herge gave Captain Haddock a lot of facial expression when compared to many of the characters in Tintin and even Tintin himself who had few facial characteristics. In some frames you can see Captain Haddock's face contorted with contempt or anger.

Captain Haddock from his humble creation becomes a heroic figure in the Tintin Adventures with Haddock actually offering up his life to save his pal in Tintin in Tibet. He is later seen as a retired captain in following albums and starts to take on even more central roles.

Herge built a back story around Captain Haddock and give him a family home called Marlinspike Hall and even introduces relatives and ancestors of Haddock in these adventures (e.g. Sir Francis is a Captain in King Charles II's Navy, the Commander of Unicorn, and Captain Archibald Haddock's ancestor).

Captain Haddock takes a serious role in The Shooting Star, where he is shown to be the President of the Society of Sober Sailors. His presence is futher felt in Th Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham's treasure. Herge by the time of his last completed album Tintin and the Picaros gives Captin Haddock the central role in the first half of the album. Herge was very fond of the character at the end of his life.

The Tintin movie to be released in 2009 and to be directed by either Peter Jackson or Steven Spielberg will prove to be a big draw at the box office. The buzz around the Tintin movie is already huge with several Tintin forums red hot with discussion

I have already gone into the explanation about why this Tintin movie trilogy has been so popular before. Tintin is an everyman whose character is something that we can all relate to. His innate sense to do well and find the truth is something that we all relate to from our childhood. Tintin is a European cartoon legend.

There have been 23 adventures written by Herge from 1929 to 1976 sadly with a 24th Tintin and the Alpha-Art incomplete when he died in 1983. Herge specified in his will that there should be no new illustrated adventures after his passing.

On May 15th on what was the week before people were to celebrate what would have been Herge 100th birthday Spielberg and Jackson announced they would be translating three existing Tintin stories to the big screen.

The big question is now which Tintin album will be the first to be turned into a Tintin movie. There has been a lot of talk and it been a closely guarded secret. The buzz has been great and the speculation huge. There are 23 Tintin adventures to choose from and so a lot of possible material to cover.

The album of choice will probably come after 1940 because this is when Herge introduced the much loved character Captain Haddock rumored to be played by Tom Hanks. It is also true that Herge was a lot less political in his stories after the second world war that ended in 1944 (He had worked under Nazi occupation in Belgium writing for a paper).

The most likely source for the Tintin movie will be from the double installment episodes from Herge middle period: the pirate/submarine yarn The Secret of the Unicorn and its sequel Red Rackham's Treasure (1943-44); the Inca Diptych The Seven Crystal Balls and The Prisoner of the Sun (1948-9); and the post-war Destination Moon/Explorers on the Moon (1953-54) where Tintin becomes the first human on the Moon 15 years before Neil Armstrong. Tintin reaches the lunar surface on what looks suspiciously like a V-2 rocket.

The other single volume adventures would at first appear a little too slender to create into a film. It is believed that Spielberg and Jackson have yet to confirm which albums they will work on all though speculation has increased as to who will playing which Tintin role. Rupert Grint (of Harry Potter fame) has been linked to the part of the pesky Walloon reporter. There may though be a few surprises and even Gwyneth Paltrow name has been mentioned more than once.

Whatever happens and we wait with baited breath any announcement will be big news in Hollywood.

Then, in a historic moment of superhero comic book legends, Doomsday and Superman strike each other at the same time, causing an unforgettable and history making event. This is where the 'death of Superman' came in at.

At that point, a Cyborg took Doomsday to a place farway, never to return again, so they thought. It was just one more 'death' that this villain would overcome.

The same absolutely applies to schools and school shooters. There have been dozens of recorded incidents whereby a school shooter and murderer was stopped at gunpoint by individuals who managed to get to their firearms stored elsewhere before the shooter could continue his murderous rampage. Dr. Ignatius Piazza points to these surveys and these events of prevention as prime examples that criminals will be stopped by trained, armed individuals.

Front Sight Firearms Training Institute wishes a horrible problem like school shootings could go away with the use of "Gun Free Zone" signs around schools, but it and Dr. Ignatius Piazza are too wise to know it will never happen. That's why they stand by their decision to train as many teachers as they possibly can in safe, effective gun use.

Are Movie Downloads For Free A Good Thing?

With the advent of the internet it's now possible to download practically anything you want, store it on your hard drive and then squeeze it onto either a dvd, your ipod, your zune or maybe either your iphone (if you're an early adopter of course!)

This is the time of plenty, the time to gorge yourself on movie, music and game goodness...but doesn't anyone feel just a little bit guilty about all of this?

Certainly the movie industry will tell you that it's a terrible crime to download and share films. They say you should cough up the money to go and sit in a noisy, smelly cinema complete with a sticky floor and idiot teenagers on their mobile phones.

With that kind of choice is it any wonder the majority of people would prefer to sit at home and watch the latest releases. Certainly, a friend of mine has six children to look after - he simply can't afford to take them all to the cinema.

Unfortunately it seems that until the movie company bigwigs decide to offer a better product to the consumer (and the advent of 3D may just be the thing) people will be content to download to their hearts content. In any case, is it really any worse that passing around movies to your friends as you do when you're a kid?

I have a funny feeling that the viral spread of movies, music and games can actually be a positive thing - but only if the product in question is any good!

Think about this, if a movie is really, really top notch, it gets leaked and 14 year old Timmy gets to see it before it's on at the cinema, what will happen? He's going to go an tell all of his buddies that the movie is great and they (and possibly he) will all want to go and watch it on the big screen. Maybe I'm too much of an optimist.

The fact is that downloading to your ipod, your zune, your dvd disc or your iphone is so advanced, especially with the many premium membership sites around that it's convenient, slicker and not to mention cheaper than the cinematic equivalent.

Downloading is not just about finding a spyware infested forum and hoping that you end up with what you want. Nowadays slick memberships exist offering you free DVD burning software and easy to use search tools to get the exact movie or piece of music that you want.

What's more most of these sites offer free membership after a small initial fee. So for just $30 you can have access to as many movies as you want.

With competition like this, it's no wonder the movie executives are annoyed. What's the answer for them? Create a better product and get people back into the cinemas. 3D maybe the answer to this one...

This scene is from the finale of Sergio Leone's masterpiece The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. It is an unmistakable triumph of the Western film genre. You may think that it was filmed in Old Tucson or perhaps just a short drive from Hollywood. But this classic scene was filmed just north of Madrid, Spain. In fact, Leone and Clint Eastwood's entire Dollars trilogy was shot with Spain standing in for the American Southwest.

Hollywood's fascination with Spanish landscapes and architecture has a rich history. From classic shots like those Leone used to the picturesque Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in the opening scenes of the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough, the vistas of Spain - whether because of the average American's unfamiliarity with them or because of their sheer beauty - have served as a backdrop for countless films. And now Hollywood's stars are planting roots on Spanish soil.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones spend their summers with their children on Majorca, the largest island off the coast of Spain, as does Claudia Schiffer. More family orientated celebs such as the Douglas family inhabit the North coast, while the South coast offers a glorious nightlife and many resorts that cater to the young and adventurous. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are reported to be considering a Spanish abode, though whether they are considering recent vacation spot Bilbao or somewhere a little more quiet has yet to be determined. The Costa del Sol, where the weather is nearly perfect year-round, is famous for its more than forty scenic golf courses. Sean Connery lived in Marbella, where he enjoyed daily golfing when he wasn't working on projects. Joan Collins resided in Marbella prior to her celebrated role in the television drama Dynasty. This historic Andalusian city was also used as a backdrop for the recent political and historical thrillers Syriana and Munich.

Perhaps those working in film, eager to get away from the ebb and flow of Tinseltown, are seeking to find a home away from home where their work receives accolades. The San Sebastian Film Festival attracts luminaries like Jeremy Irons, Jessica Lange, Mel Gibson and Melanie Griffith. Director David Cronenberg attended the event after a friend told him that it is the most beautiful festival in the world.

The art of the country is another attraction for celebrities. From Goya's portraits to Picasso's Blue Period, the art world has flourished in Spain. Recently Cillian Murphy signed on opposite Al Pacino for a film based on Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali to be filmed primarily in Spain.

Spain offers visitors from Hollywood a diverse blend of recreation, beautiful weather and intriguing culture. The country has attracted celebrities to both its northern and southern shores as well as many of its islands, and stars find it is the perfect place for both filmmaking and homemaking as well. From Sienna Miller sunbathing on the shores of Ibiza to Woody Allen filming his future work entitled Vicky Christina Barcelona - which is a love letter of sorts to the fabled city - modern movie stars can't seem to get enough of Spain.

It is an unrated 90 minute drama that has garnered glowing reviews from the prestigious family oriented Dove Foundation.

The film released by Los Angeles based Gener8Xion Entertainment, Inc., (Omega Code,) (One Night with The King,) (China Cry,) follows the lives of two Catholic priests who have both reached stagnant plateaus in their lives that they cannot accept and they want to move on. In order to move ahead each must face a different obstacle.

Father Keene (David Wall) is haunted by the choices he made in youth and is saddled with the business of closing a small faltering Parish church in a quaint New England fishing village on Old Cape Cod. His counterpart is Father Simeon Joyce (Sean Patrick Brennan) who is searching for a way to revitalize the church and keep it open.

Fr. Joyce loves both the church and the townspeople so when they won't come to him he goes to them. He is often found fraternizing with the town's people in the local pub where Celtic and American Folk music are featured.

The Cape Coders are a colorful melee of characters that from time to time are heard speaking the soft and melodious strains of the Portuguese language so prevalent in that part of New England. The Portuguese, who are noted for their belief in "fado" or fate make a fitting backdrop for this film where fate changes for just about everyone of its leading characters.

Inadvertently each priest helps the other to find the answer they both desperately crave. When Father Keene suggests a Christmas play at the church and Father Joyce invites Father Keene to the town's biggest annual Christmas gathering at the home of Widow Marjorie Worthington (Kerry Wall) their respective personal torments begin to unravel.

Father Keene is plagued by a recurring vision of an angelic child played by David Wall's daughter (Brennan Wall) and with each appearance the mystery escalates. Why does this child haunt Father Keene and just what does she want from him? This is answered at the powerful conclusion of the film and is an ending that will never escape your memory.

David Wall displays an amazing versatility as an actor when in one moment he will make you laugh uproariously as he crashes a motor scooter into a snow bank while in the next he will have you glued to every word in an intense dialogue with others in the story. David's lovely wife Kerry, who plays Marjorie Worthington, wields her thespianic craft with equal intensity and convincibility.

David Wall admitted that many people remind him of how much he looks like a young Robert Redford but was quick to say, "You have never seen Robert Redford fall on his butt in any movie he has ever made." Wall may be the victim of Cape Cod's blustering winter ice but he doesn't fall at all in his performance as the emotionally troubled priest who Wall says is "struggling not only to discover who he is; but also; who he is not."

Although the production has a clear pro-life message interwoven into it, David Wall said his original attempt was at "dealing with hypocrisy" The secondary import of the message is one Wall welcomes and he is unafraid to make his pro-life position known.

The film is not in anyway limited in its appeal to just pro-lifers. Because upwards of forty million children have been aborted in the United States the numbers of people affected collaterally is much more. Forty million babies, mothers, fathers, friends and family have all had their lives changed in some way by a decision to abort. The film speaks to all of them. It offers a universal message across the board from the abortion advocate to the post abortion women who are so quickly forgotten. That message is the heart of the film.

The film is accessible to Christians, Catholics and the general public in any strata of society. It has a deeply human and universal appeal that starts at the heart but may end with a renewal of the mind and perhaps even the very fabric of society itself.

No?e has the ear markings and promise of a classic film not just for Christmas but for all time and for any time. Dove Foundation says the film can be seen by 12 years old and up so it could possibly be the best family movie for this Christmas season and for many more to come.

In the almost never ending barrage of computer animated films, most of them consist of vaguely recycled plots that are well and good for kiddy cannon fodder.

Not only are their plots recycled, but nowadays the big trend seems to be using penguins. However, DreamWorks Bee Movie is a highly entertaining and original film that both kids and adults can appreciate. With such voice talents as Jerry Seinfeld, Renee Zelwegger, Matthew Broderick, John Goodman, Patrick Warburton, and even Chris Rock.

Any person who has ever felt that their job was menial, repetitive and soul sucking should relate to main character Barry Bee Benson (Jerry Seinfeld). Barry has just graduated from Bee College and becomes rather disillusioned at the prospect of devoting the rest of his life to the business of making honey.

When he dares to venture to the outside of the hive to see the world before he decides on his life's career, he gets caught in the rain, which renders him incapable of flight.

Seeking refuge inside of an apartment where he is nearly killed, he is saved by a human (Renee Zelwegger) and begins to talk to her. After a few of what one could consider to be dates with the human, Barry discovers that the honey his people work so hard to make is being stolen by bee farms and sold. Being highly offended and outraged by this theft, Barry breaks the silence of the bee race and decides to sue the honey companies.

This movie is very funny on a level that both kids and parents will enjoy. Unlike most animated films that only get big name actors for hype, Bee Movie has actors who do a legitimately good job of their voice acting. Seinfeld's voice is channeled effortlessly into his character.

John Goodman does a fine job as a stereotypically southern lawyer who is quick to point out human superiority. However, Patrick Warburton definitely stole the show with his deep and laughingly manly voice.

While you probably won't find it to be Shakespearian, Bee Movie has a message that almost anyone can identify with. In fact, the only real problems I had with the movie were the many scenes requiring serious suspension of disbelief (even for an animated film), and the false scientific information scattered throughout the entire film.

So, if you're looking for a family night out, or just a light-hearted excursion from daily hassles, then Bee Movie is just what you have been looking for.

The Golden Compass - Navigates to Nowhere

This compass is obviously broken and worthless but with a $150,000,000 budget behind it the producers are hoping no one will notice. Another group that hopes no one will notice it is the parents of millions of American children. Catholic and protestant organizations alike are warning families that it has clear anti-Christ overtones and a message that can only drag young minds further into a media driven pool of emptiness where life is hopeless and the future is bleak.

The cast lineup consists of Nicole Kidman, Dakota Blue Richards, Sam Elliot, Eva Green and Daniel Craig. It is directed by Chris Weitz. Thaindian News reported in a post dated November 25, 2007 from Washington (ANI) that actress Nicole Kidman is "anxiously praying for the box office success of fantasy movie The Golden Compass so that she can make a sequel." The forty year old star is undoubtedly unaware that millions of believers are praying for just the opposite.

The Omaha World-Herald November 25, 2007 reported that "The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights is urging families to boycott the movie and its source books, a trilogy of novels called "His Dark Materials" by British author Philip Pullman, who is a self-professed atheist."

According to the Baptist Record, a Journal of the Mississippi Baptist Convention November 22, 2007 Pullman said in a 2001 interview, "I'm trying to undermine the basis of the Christian belief," and two years later told another newspaper, "My books are about killing God."

The Golden Compass is New Line Cinema's offering of the first of a trilogy of anti God movies all based on the Pullmans disdain for God, Christianity and C. S. Lewis' highly acclaimed "Chronicles of Narnia. The remaining two novels can only get worse.

In the third and final book of the trilogy, one of the films characters is told by the two homosexual angels that the "Authority" has many names such as El, Adonai, the King and the Father Almighty. For adults who know their bibles the trilogy might seem like a takeoff on dumb, dumber and dumbest but to children whose spiritual wellbeing is at stake the threat is looming and quite real.

Unlike the Da Vinci Code which was transparently spurious Golden Compass has the subtle difference of appeal to youth because of the elaborate and dazzling animated screen play and the fairy tale like fantasy of the story. Pullman uses the ridiculous, unlearned and untrue cry against all the atrocities that have been committed in the name of religion, especially Christianity. Like the historians who were similarly asleep at the wheel in the making of Da Vinci Code, Pullman's view of history is freshmen grade tripe.

The millions who have died across the span of history had their lives snuffed out by despots who were anything but religious. Roman emperors, Greek conquerors, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler and the like were anything but Christian. In fact they were all atheists like Pullman. Unchecked common wisdom of the day may have succeeded in ringing Pullman's bell but under a more scrutinizing eye all that is left for this flick is for someone to hit the gong.

No one church, ministry or minister has of late been able to throw $150 million at a project or an evangelistic effort. Blood has been shed to proclaim the gospel in dozens of countries around the globe, not in ancient times but it is going on at this very moment. It is a price to pay that in Gods eyes is worth far more than the mere pittance thrown at a film by an angry atheistic Britain who doesn't regard the spiritual welfare of youth in either America or Britain.

Jesus warned that offending, weakening or robbing the faith of the young and innocent has dire consequences. (Mt. 18:6) In this day of boldly kicking out the old and flaunting the new whether it is pop fluff or debasing media claptrap, Pullman is yet covered by his "right" to freedom of speech and expression both in America or Britain. As it applies to him it may seem only appropriate to say nothing. When it becomes a $150,000,000 message thrown at the young to dissuade them from the connection that will determine their eternal destiny he has exercised his "right" in a way that can only be wrong.

The header of the marquis poster shown in pr spots and in advertisements reads "There are worlds beyond our own; the compass will show you the way." The Compass will certainly not live up to that promise either in theatres or in the minds of a huge majority of Americans.

Jesus is not just an "Authority" which is one of the more common usages in the film for God's name. He is also the Lamb of God who lay down his life for the sheep. (John 10:11) Without a shepherd everyone is just wandering aimlessly around this planet and no contrived, imaginary compass golden or not will substitute for the true guide.

This enduring truth is best said in a stanza of an old and much loved Christian hymn entitled "Jesus Savior Pilot Me." This beloved hymn was written by Edward Hooper a former seaman and minister to many of New York's hearty sailors and career mariners. These words first appeared in the "Sailor's Magazine" published in 1871 but are still sung by the faithful around the world today.

The Alamo Drafthouse - An Austin Original

Not many new businesses open their doors and become an immediate Austin success, but the Alamo Drafthouse is an exception to the rule. In 1997, Tim and Karrie League opened the Alamo Drafthouse in a downtown Austin warehouse building that was being used as a parking garage, playing mostly second run movies. Their twist to the movie-going experience was to offer food and drinks brought to the viewers by black-clad servers.

The Alamo Drafthouse caught on quickly, and soon changed their programming to include creative lineups of movies and complimentary cuisine, such as Spaghetti Westerns with Spaghetti Feasts, drawing Austinites looking for a dinner and movie experience out of the norm.

In 2001, the Leagues purchased and renovated a 4 screen art house theater on Anderson Lane, and the Alamo Drafthouse Village was born. The Village location provided first run movies, which freed up the original Drafthouse to concentrate on unique programming 100% of the time. It's this programming that has transformed the Alamo into one of the most innovative movie theaters in the country.

Along with pairing food and movies together, the Alamo Drafthouse hosts Sing-A-Longs to packed Musical-loving houses, and Quote-A-Longs that serve up quote-worthy movies, such as Blazing Saddles. Every Wednesday at midnight, the Alamo provides a bizarre gem completely free, pleasing the broke college crowd who can be entertained while enjoying a couple beers for a small amount of money. They also host a "Make a Movie in 48 Hours" challenge for budding filmmakers to show what they can do in a limited amount of time, with the winner chosen by a panel of celebrity filmmakers. The Alamo Drafthouse is also home of the Air Guitar Championships for those with the best air guitar chops in the land.

Stepping outside of the box a little further, the Leagues purchased a giant inflatable movie screen for film screenings in remote locations. Deemed the Rolling Roadshow, moviegoers could paddle a canoe down a river, and eat dinner on its banks while watching Deliverance, or spend the day at Camp Hack-n-Slash before watching horror camp movies all night long. This past summer, the Rolling Roadshow headed across America screening famous movies in famous places, like North By Northwest at Mount Rushmore.

In 2004, Tim and Karrie League sold the company, the intellectual rights, and brand to Terrell Braly and John Martin. The new owners of the Drafthouse are expanding the theaters, with an eventual goal of 200 nationwide. The Leagues did retain the rights to the original Drafthouse, the Village, and the South Lamar location that opened in 2005. With skyrocketing costs in the warehouse district, the Leagues recently renovated the 1929 Ritz Theater on 6th Street, and it serves as the new heart for the Alamo Drafthouse. It opened November 2nd, with the Leagues coming full force, screening a Triple Feature of Attack of the Mushroom People, including a Mushroom Feast, a sneak peek of the Coen brothers newest release, No Country for Old Men, and Quentin Tarantino flying in for a Terror Thursday screening of War of the Gargantuas.
